Our Mission

Uniting the Outdoor Community

How It All Started

The Trading Post was conceptualized over the span of 10 years. After encountering problems many people face.
I was hunting, on my family owned private land one day when I suddenly needed help with my bow. After I hiked out, ultimately abandoning my hunt, I searched for the nearest bow shop. The closet one was still hours away. I remember thinking, “There has to be someone local who knows how to work on bows. Someone with a small shop in their garage, basement, or barn.”
But there was no easy way to find them. I needed a local community, an active forum or emergency services from a bow technician.
Fast forward a couple of years and I found myself starting a homestead. We are raising meat birds, collecting eggs, gardening and producing our own food. But, like many homesteaders, we often have extra and are always in need for an upgrade, a new piece of equipment or some guidance. Another problem we face, is our location. We live on a quiet dead-end road with almost no traffic. A farm stand would only be seen by a few neighbors each day.
Both instances made me realize the need for this community and thus the Trading Post was born.
The Trading Post hosts the very large outdoor based community we know exists all over the world. Connection, advice, marketplace, trading post, tool and venue, its a place for the small producers, the backyard farmers, the basement bow technicians, the local craftsmen, the hunters, the fishermen, the gardeners, and homesteaders alike. Real People. Real Hobbies with a real concern for land conservation.

A Marketplace Built for the Outdoor Community

The Trading Post is designed to help people list and find:

  • Outdoor gear
  • Hunting and fishing equipment
  • Homemade tools and products
  • Farm fresh food and produce
  • Homesteading supplies
  • Local services
  • Small independent outdoor businesses
It’s also a place where people can trade goods, not just sell them. Sometimes the best transactions happen when neighbors help neighbors, skills are shared, and communities support one another.
This platform exists to help small local producers and independent outdoor businesses grow, instead of forcing people to rely only on big-box retailers.

Strengthening Local Communities

When you buy something through The Trading Post, you are often supporting someone in your own community.

A local farmer
A homesteader
A craftsman
A small outdoor business
Someone turning their passion into a livelihood

Money spent locally helps communities grow stronger, more independent, and more resilient.

It also helps people reconnect with where their food and goods actually come from.

A Bigger Purpose: Protecting Land

The Trading Post is not just a marketplace.

It has a larger mission.

Fees generated through the platform will be used to purchase farmland and vacant land across the country with the goal of restoring it to its natural habitat.

Depending on the location, land may be restored into:

  • Native prairie
  • Forest habitat
  • Wetlands
  • Wildlife conservation areas
  • Community gardens
  • Natural outdoor spaces
In many cases, this land will eventually be opened to members of the community who helped make it possible.
As development continues to expand and public land becomes harder to access, protecting and restoring land is more important than ever.

Protecting the Future of the Outdoors

Many of us grew up learning about the outdoors from someone important in our lives.

For me, it was my grandfather.

He taught me how to fish and gave me my love for the outdoors that continues today.

Now as a parent, I want future generations to have those same opportunities — to hunt, fish, garden, explore nature, and understand the ecosystems around them.

The Trading Post exists to help protect that future.

By strengthening outdoor communities, supporting small producers, and restoring land, we can help ensure that the traditions of hunting, fishing, homesteading, and conservation continue for generations.

More Than a Marketplace

You could buy and sell on other platforms.

Places like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or eBay.

But The Trading Post was built with a different goal.

It exists to:

  • Support local outdoor communities
  • Help small businesses grow
  • Promote self-reliance and homesteading
  • Encourage local food and goods
  • Protect land and wildlife habitat
  • Bring people who love the outdoors together

This is not just another marketplace.

It’s a platform built around community, conservation, and the future of the outdoors.
